Volunteer with Democracy Week

San Francisco October 5 to 11
Los Angeles October 12 to 18, 2026

Democracy Week is run by volunteers. A few hours during the week goes a long way for the organizers, and it’s a good way to meet the people behind the events. Sign up below and we’ll match you.

How you can help

What volunteers do

You don’t need experience in politics, organizing, or tech. If you can show up and be helpful, that’s the whole qualification. Here’s what usually needs doing.

Event setup and breakdown

Arrive early, help arrange chairs, set up signs, make sure the AV works. Stay late, help clean up. The unglamorous work that makes everything else possible.

Check-in and welcome

Greet people at the door, help them find their name badge, point them toward the coffee. First impressions set the tone for the whole event.

Photos and documentation

Take photos, record short clips, capture the energy. This gives organizers material to share afterward and helps the next event fill the room.

Notetaking

Capture what was said, the questions that came up, and what the room agreed on. Shared notes turn a two-hour event into something that keeps working afterward.

Outreach and promotion

Help spread the word before the week starts: share events, invite people, post on social media, put up flyers. Especially useful if you’re well-connected in a specific community.

Planning and logistics

Help organizers behind the scenes with scheduling, communications, coordinating across events, or anything else that needs doing in the weeks leading up.

What to expect

How it works

  1. Fill out the form below. Tell us which city, which dates work, and what you’re up for. Takes about two minutes.
  2. We match you to events. Based on your availability and what you’re interested in, we’ll connect you with organizers who need help.
  3. The organizer reaches out. They’ll share the details: where to show up, what time, and what they need.
  4. You show up, you help, you meet great people. Most volunteer shifts are two to four hours. You’ll leave knowing more people than you came with.
