LA Democracy Week

A week of events across Los Angeles, running the same week as LA Tech Week. Same idea as San Francisco, one week later, and now in formation. If you’re in LA and want a hand in shaping it, join us on a coming planning call or reach out.

What’s happening in LA

Events will be added here soon. Subscribe to the calendar and you’ll hear as they land, or add your own.

The calendar isn’t live yet.

Yours could be amongst the first batch that goes live. Add your event or subscribe to the calendar.

Ways to take part in LA

LADW is wide open, and there’s room for almost anything. You don’t need a venue, a budget, or a finished plan to start.

Host an event

Anywhere in the city, any format, any size. Tech related or not. We’ll help you fill the room.

Offer a venue

An office, a bookstore, a church hall, a backyard. We’ll match you with organizers looking for space in LA.

Help organize

Programming, outreach, comms, logistics, day-of volunteering. The next LA planning call is Aug 26, 5-6pm PT.

Bring your organization

Co-promote, bring your community into the week, or help cover costs. We’re looking for partners from across the spectrum, on purpose.

If a call isn’t your thing, you can add an event or sign up as a partner without ever getting on Zoom.

Ideas you can just take

We think democracy efforts should be both serious, and seriously fun. If you like the idea of hosting but don’t have one yet, claim any of these and we’ll help you make it happen.

Constitutional comedy nightStand-up, but make it federalism.

Civic improvAudience proposes a local problem, the cast plays out the city council meeting.

Cross-partisan paddle tournamentTeams drawn at random. Talk politics only at the net.

Ballot measure potluckBring a dish, work through the measures nobody understands.

Local news triviaRun it with a local newsroom. Loser buys the subscriptions.

A neighbors dinnerOne rule: nobody talks about national politics.

Precinct seat clinicHow to actually get onto a local party committee, either party.

A civic jamA day of building things that make local civic life work better.

Tell us which one you want and we’ll help you find a room and a crowd. Add your event.

Hey LA, let’s do this

LADW is being built right now, join us and help shape what it will look like. Neighborhoods, formats, events, energy … let’s make this amazing.

We’re looking for LA co-organizers

People with venues, people who know their neighborhoods, the civic scene, people who’ve run events in LA before, and organizations with a local community to bring. You don’t need to run the whole week, this is like a potluck, everyone can bring a particular event, or dish, or contribution, and together we’ll make a feast.

Running alongside LA Tech Week is deliberate. Democracy Week events that touch on tech can cross-post to both calendars and reach both crowds. And LA brings something San Francisco doesn’t: the people who make what the rest of the country watches. Storytelling is civic infrastructure too.

Democracy Week and Accelerator Partners & Collaborators

Let’s build LA Democracy Week together

An event idea, an organization, a venue, a question, or just curiosity. All of it is welcome, and none of it needs to be figured out before you get in touch.

In San Francisco instead? SF Democracy Week runs Oct 5-11.
